Cassian knew Mel as the youngest and newest edition to the Piltoveran Council. He was roughly fresh into the Cadet school when it was announced she would be taking the seat of counselor, from Noxian decent.

Shortly following his founding of HexTech alongside Jayce, was when he first formally met Mel. He admired her personality, quickly off the bat. She was reasonable and followed what she thought was right aside from her prospects, which was something Cassian thought the Council needed more of.

As she presided over HexTech more over the following years, he wasn't disappointed to run into her more. Perhaps it was safe to call her a friend.
