- There is a big difference between faith and foolishness.
- Peter does not immediately jump out of the boat. He begins by requesting Jesus to give him permission first.
- It is possible for us to make courageous, high-risk decisions that are stupid.
- Water-walking requires not only the courage to take a risk, but also the wisdom to discern a call.
- Peter is not in charge of water-walking--Jesus is.
- What we do matters immensely. It is worth devoting our best energy to. We are on a mission from God.
- A calling is something you discover, not something you choose. (People will sometimes speak about "choosing their calling," but a chosen calling is an oxymoron.)
- A calling is "the place where your deep gladness meets the world's deep need." - Frederich Buechner
- What work brings you joy? For what do you have desire and passion--for these, too, are gifts from God. This is why giftedness is about more than just talents--it includes passion.
- An enormous part of following your calling is not so much as choosing as it is listening.
- If I have the courage to acknowledge my limits and embrace them, I can experience enormous freedom. If I lack this courage, I will be imprisoned by them.
- LOW-COST PROBE: The idea is to keep your day job, but test the waters of a new calling. Begin to explore your effectiveness in the area to which you believe God may be calling you.
- We're not called just to work for God. We are called to work with God.
