in the ninotes rn to talk about the greatness that is the anime ‘great pretender’, makoto and edaurent. like they have been on the mind so frequently recently n it genuinely makes me ill thinking about them like i genuinely love them so bed and the messages within the anime makes me ill and omg i just love them??? like the anime is so perfect /gen and like as much as i love this anime and i wish it got the flowers it deserved im so glad it hasn’t reached the mainstream audience bc the nonexistent media literacy that these bitches has is beyond me. like i see awful takes in the tiktok comments and on reddit and im like “oh so we didnt watch the same show huh”.

i think why this show resonates with me so much is that i think that thematically, the struggle with the is concept of change and holding onto the past/nostalgia, which are the overarching topics in grepre, are something that i struggle with to and seeing these people move on from trauma ad basically roadblocks for themselves is inspiring. like wizard of the far east will always be dear to me bc of how the exploit makoto and of course i dont want them to exploit makoto bc he’s gone though so much but how they depicted his reaction was so raw and honest and true and i will forever love them for that. like not only was he confronting the gang but also his dad about how they are all prioritising this dead bitch and putting her about him in every aspect of the word - his friend and family life, no shits he’s going to internalise that shit but he continues with the group like thats insanity and actively CHOOSES them.

i think thats what gets me the most is the way everyone moves forward bc as a person i cannot believe my boyfriend loves me after loving someone else so much and for cynthia to move on from thomas and for laurent to move on from dorothy i cannot comprehend bc how can they do that to people they loved the most at one point. will laurent love anyone the way he loves dorothy? the answer quite literally is yes and even though he doesn’t love makoto the way he loves dorothy thats good. dorothy is all consuming while makoto is genuine and real and present. dorothy is always a ghost of his past while makoto represents the future, which is why were shown laurent throwing away the ring and trading for the gacha bc thats symbolising him moving forward and choosing makoto as his future and present and the dacha is now tying him to makoto and keeping him grounded idk if any of this makes sense but fuck grepre makes me so ill i could die tbh.

i think i could go on and on and on about this but i truly love grepre with my entire heart n i will continue to unpack this anime for as long as i keep on living
