Light and Death are two god-like figures in Emarisian lore. The two play a very important role in the World of Emaris series.

• Light
  • The Light is the god of purification. It is represented by healing, warmth, strength, and light. Light balanced out Death when its immense power threatened the safety of the world.
  • Vessels
    • The Light has also been known to use particular humans as "vessels", as foretold in prophecies from the Ivoryfeathers. Due to these tales, some power-hungry gaeans began kidnapping children for use in experiments to try to forcibly create a perfect vessel -- and therefore, capture the Light itself.
    • Only three vessels have been known to exist in Emaris.
• Death
  • Death is the god of decay. It is represented by death, cold, destruction, and darkness. At some point in Emaris’ history, the dark spirit Death emerged from the depths of the world and threatened its very existence with its power.
  • Redemption
    • When a person dies, they may choose to go through “Redemption” in order to return to the world of the living. It is an extremely difficult process which only two individuals have ever returned from.
    • The person must confront Death in a one-on-one battle, the end result either being that the challenger dies, or that Death is rendered unconscious. If the challenger loses, they perish forever; if they win, they may be reborn as they were.
