- Stop eating out of boredom. Having nothing better to do isn't a signal to raid the refrigerator. Eat only when you're hungry, and stop when you're full. Food is good, but are the extra pounds and feeling of sluggishness worth it? I think not.
- Wake up with a smile on your face. Always start the day right. Leave all things negative behind and start each day fresh. You'll avoid wrinkles, and maybe even contribute to other people's happiness.
- Don't hesitate to get on the elliptical. Work out first thing in the morning. That way, you'll eliminate the temptation of being sedentary. A little goes a long way, and just 20 minutes every morning before school can make a huge difference. It'll not only keep you fit, but also boost your energy for the day. The endorphins don't hurt, either!
- Hold your breath and count to ten. Don't overreact on impulse. Hold you breath and count to ten, then let go and think your actions through first. As tempting as it is to just lash out when things go wrong, it can make things worse in the long haul. You could hurt others' feelings without intending to, and you'll eventually regret what you did.
- Take time to really study. The internet, books, TV... Anything can serve as a distraction from studying. But discipline yourself and choose to stay focused. College is make-it-or-break-it time, and your grades now play a big part in determining how your future will turn out. This doesn't mean you have to be boring, it simply means setting aside time to study everyday so you won't have to cram. Come exam time, you'll be more relaxed and flexible and of course, less stressed.
- Pray more. You have so much to be thankful for, so why not take a little time to thank Him for all you have? Prayer isn't just for when you need something, it's a way to talk to say thank you, as well. Instead of sitting around doing nothing, go to the chapel when you have a little time on your hands. He gave you everything you have, so it's only right to take a little time to talk to Him and thank Him.
- Don't let distance get in the way of friendship. Miss someone? Tell them. It doesn't matter how cheesy it sounds. Letting someone know you miss their company can brighten their day, and yours too. Make an effort to get together with old friends and catch up. College may mean new friends and a busy schedule, but it was your high school friends who stuck by you through thick and thin, so let them know (and feel) just how much you still care about them.
- Learn to live a frugal life. It's nice to have luxurious things, but try to exercise a little self-control. Limit your splurging and make it a reward for yourself when you do something good. That'll make it seem more valuable, because you know you worked for it. Besides, having a little extra stashed away is always good, as you'll never know what can happen.
