there's a specific genre of men i read about in traditional literature that i develop a strange liking to for truly no reason other than "he's so babygirl," and "he" is a lame 36-year-old man struggling with guilt and emotional shame. i like lame men. this became such a pattern that i decided to start a list (that will update when necessary)

to clarify, i don't like lame men romantically, but it's more of a feeling of "i need to give them a very huge hug"

  • sydney carton — a tale of two cities by charles dickens
  • john proctor — the crucible by arthur miller
  • james longstreet — the killer angels by michael shaara
    • i know he was a real general with genuine controversy surrounding him, which i believe makes this a little more ironic and slantedly funny. when i write his name, i refer solely to the longstreet depicted in the novel the killer angels, and not at all the real historical figure and general in the american civil war.
  • judd steiner — compulsion by meyer levin
    • again... he was a real person, technically, inspired by nathan leopold — i believe i'd feel similarly towards leopold, but i am focused on his fictional portrayal in the character of judd steiner.
    • i also do not condone his actions, of course. i just find him oddly sympathizable in this book haha don't @ me...
