- anaphora — the repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of successive clauses, often for emphasis
- epistrophe — the opposite of anaphora; where a word or phrase is repeated at the end of successive clauses
- anastrophe — reversing traditional sentence structure: ex. putting an adjective after a noun, rather than the usual opposite
- aphorism — a simple truth, stated concisely
- juxtaposition — placing 2 contrasting things (words, concepts, characters, etc) next to each other, to highlight their differences
- oxymoron — placing 2 contrasting things next to each other, often to have their differences complement each other
- hypophora — asking a question that does not require an answer, because it’s immediately answered afterwards
- polysyndeton — the continual, repetitive use of conjunctions in a sentence, often without any breaks
