- Refrain from using thought verbs as much as possible
- Find what is sacred to the characters and make it sacred to you
- Write a sentence as though you cannot say exactly what you mean, write what exemplifies the emotion/event rather than the thing itself.
- Justify the character's loyalties so you understand why they love who they love and how they express their love
