Sorting my animal specific opinions into it's own group because I have a lot of them because hey, I care about this stuff! A lot! And having hard opinions on this just means I care a lot about animals, not that I'm heartless and cruel. If you disagree with any of these we probably aren’t going to get along.
- I'm extremely anti-vegan movement. Vegans honestly do more harm to the environment, and themselves, than people with regular diets. And aren't harm reducing anything by refusing to eat a cheeseburger.
- Cows aren't suffering. And we aren't evil awful people for breeding livestock. Everything dies, and cows have a very easy life before slaughter. There are valid concerns to the pork and poultry industry but deleting them entirely isn't going to fix anything.
- Animal welfare is more important than just getting rid of meat entirely.
- Fur isn't bad, the demonization of fur is heavily rooted in anti-Indigenous peoples sentiment. Fur is 100% better for the environment than """vegan""" (plastic) leather and plant based clothes.
- Adopt don't shop is horseshit you aren't morally superior for adopting a shelter animal, responsible breeders are good and should continue existing. I'd like dogs and cats to continue existing.
- Dog meat is not evil, and you are racist for thinking so. The demonization of dog meat is rooted in the racist thinking that all Asian countries are gross and backwards. The types of dogs used for dog meat are a specific breed bred for meat and are horrible pets that if you ever "saved" you would not be able to coddle like a pet breed because they are not meant for that, they are not bred for behavior. Your French Bulldog wasn't rescued from the "Korean Meat Industry". You got scammed and lied to.
- Pitbulls are good breeds, but they are not innocent angels. (Neither is any dog really but that’s another can of worms.) They are a breed that was bred for, well, fighting bulls. Heavily athropomorphizing them and refusing to acknowledge this breed does have some inherent behavior issues leads to more harm than help. All dog breeds have their various issues, and pits aren’t the only breed with inherent behavior/aggression issues in their genes. But claim they are a low effort breed that is naturally calm and obscure the problems the breed may have just to get dogs adopted is extremely dangerous for dog and owner. The responsible way to advocate for pitbulls is to give owners all of the information on the breed they’re adopting and to make sure they know what they are getting into so the dog can be properly trained and socialized. This goes for all breeds honestly but pits are the hot topic so it needs to be said. I do not hate the breed, I hate the owner. And I don’t just mean abusive owners, I mean people who think they can keep a large dog with aggression instincts, give it no training and never introduce it to other people and animals, coop it up in a studio apartment all day, and then act so shocked when it attacks something. Those people are contributing to the problem just as much as abusers are.
