    • enjoyable but a bit too deep for my understanding lmao
  • get out (2017) - 06/05/17 ★★★☆☆
    • first movie I've watched in the cinemas for a while. More of a thriller than horror. I don't watch horror movies on the reg so i wouldn't know, but it feels like it relied more on jumpscares to scare people and the plot only weirded you out in a "wtf??" way, that's why at the end it didn't really feel "scary" or unsettling
  • sing street - 21/06/17 ★★★★★
    • feel good movie with a nice soundtrack. a bit too romantic and idealistic but still fun
  • wonder woman - 24/06/17 ★★★★☆
    • idk why but i felt like crying when they were showing Themyscira and just this amazing community/world of women and they were all so powerful and beautiful and amazing and my love for women was so strong at that moment. Beyond that Diana is the biggest and most loveable sweetheart she's so innocent and adorable i love her so much. Steve was also great as her friend/love interest. Even though i felt like i didn't know why they fell for each other i'm pretty sure if i watch the movie again i'll understand. the ending was a bit too didactic/sentimental/sappy/cliche (i'm not really sure how to describe it but its just too dramatic/thematic) and it was hard to take ares seriously because the guy who played him just looked so wimpy lmao but it's interesting that i thought that and i think the casting choice really makes you re-examine our perception of violence and war and how it's personified, etc.
  • the red shoes (1948) - 25/06/17 ★★★☆☆ + 1/2
    • it starts kind of slow and spends most of the first half world building but not really getting into the characters? a lot of the drama kicks off in the second hour. i was actually laughing so much because wow was lermontov a bitch and the scene where he's watching vicky and julian fighting and smiling, omg. it really skips over julian and vicky's romance which for me undermines her later decision. like sure she says they're in love but as the audience i didn't really believe/feel it. beyond that the costumes were beautiful and even more so the setting, in particular monte carlo. My favourite scene is in the red shoes performance after her boyfriend gets dragged away and she's dancing down the alley(?) in slow motion with pieces of coloured cellophane floating in the foreground.

    • a sweet little film with more comedy than i expected. qiwu was so pitiful and endearing i really wanted to see more of his story. overall a very romantic and stylistically different experience for me. will have california dreamin' playing in my head for a while

  • baby driver - 15/07/17 ★★★★☆ + 1/2
    • not a great movie for the women so it loses half a star. it was the first movie that had me feeling really excited and invested throughout, definitely something that needs to be experienced in a cinema. but yeah...not a great movie for the women

  • guardians of the galaxy vol.2 - 22/09/17 ★★★☆☆
    • a few cliches and a cringey script at times but i did tear up at the end against my will lol. honestly tho did anyone else feel like the gamora/peter romance was so boring and unnecessary like i just couldn't care less lol gamora and nebula's relationship was infinitely more interesting im glad it got a lot of screen time
  • kingsman: the golden circle - 24/09/17 ★★★☆☆
    • not as good as the first one. don't really know why channing tatum was there
  • les yeux sans visage - 3/11/17 ★★★☆☆ + 1/2
    • poetic like all the reviewers say. i think i got too caught up in how unrealistic the surgery and science was cus it was literally laughable. still, it was good special effects for its time. also @ christiane you really don't need to forcefully push a dogs face next to yours to show that there's a "connection" between you. i liked christiane and her conflict between wanting a face again and her morality but i kinda didn't understand her motivations towards the end. also 10/10 for those cops who just manipulated a woman into baiting a murderer then are like "my mind is at ease, what a good days work!" when she actually goes missing
  • justice league - 17/11/17 ★★☆☆☆
    • i couldn't even like wonder woman much and that says a lot about this movie. honestly a waste of time. from the get go they just try to stuff too much back story into the first (what felt like more than) half an hour. i don't know why they didn't give aquaman or barry a movie before hand as if they're not pretty well established super heroes? it would've made things a lot simpler and probably the main reason the avengers was so much better and this was, tbh, a flop (at least critically). the avengers obvi has some flaws but like black widow and hawkeye were just there and backstory for hawkeye only came in the second movie like with JL they tried to fit three whole origin stories into one movie while still trying to tell a new one and i don't really know why they thought that was a good idea. i only liked barry and cyborg because they were endearing and funny. nothing's investing because i just don't care about anything or anyone. the villain is so generic and blah you'd really only care if you read the comics. also what's up with superman? literal deus ex machina ending. if clark is so powerful what's the point of the justice league? like all they need to do is clean up the underlings and guide the citizens to safety while clark handles the rest. if the JL can't even beat (i don't even remember the villain all i remember is "mother" lmao) this boring ass villain without clark then what am I supposed to believe in future movies? their only option would be to ~fight the enemy as one~ and load up more of the cheese. I don't mind the quips, i feel like they're just a part of the genre at this point, but they went above and beyond with the grandiosity. it's just eye rolling for me. basically you just don't give a fuck from start to end about anything except barry, victor and diana (for me at least)
  • goodfellas - 18/11/17 ★★★☆☆ + 3/4

  • thor: ragnarok - 01/12/17 ★★★☆☆ + 3/4
    • very weird first half. i think after hela smashes the ceiling mural is when the story gets interesting. there was just too much humour when there should have been emotion and the pacing felt very fast too. the acting also was lacking in the first half. not the worst big screen debut for taika but probably his worst work to date. once thor gets to the trash island place things start to run more smoothly

    • i was so frustrated after watching this. like... why would there not be laws against private ownership of exotic animals? why isn't it illegal? like i really can't think of any way to justify its legality. especially since the animals have to be smuggled in? and if not then they're bred by the owners and like the market/demand only exists (imo) because there are no laws against ownership!??!?!!?? like the most common arguments for it are a) conservation (bs because obvi just support actual conservation groups instead of spending thousands of dollars buying meat for your tiger/s. why breed exotic animals in captivity "in case they become extinct/endangered in the future" when you can preserve the existing animals as they are and try and help protect the environment because obviously your animals, if (by some crazy chance) they're the last in the world, wouldn't have the survival skills/natural instincts to survive in the wild???) and b) companionship (get a dog!!!! i can't deal with these people like you're really gonna ruin the life/potential life of a wild animal because you think they make you happy and act like the love is reciprocal? its so delusional and i hurt the most for the animals that have to be restricted so much because otherwise the would cause harm to their owners"and yet they still say "oh they love me so much!! don't you george?" from 5 feet away behind a brick wall). everything the owners do contradicts what they say to justify their actions. its so obvious how miserable and mistreated the animals are i hope laws do get created in the near future that bans private ownership of exotic animals.
