I'm shy. I stutter. I blush and fumble for words. I laugh whenever I make mistakes and repeat them for anyone who didn't notice. Yes, I do all that during a report in class but not when I'm given an audience who are not people I'd spend an entire semester with. I like strangers. With the right topic, I can plow on for hours sharing information, answering questions, and basking in feedback. Especially if the audience is composed of kids. And we are talking about nature and the state of the environment. I know resource speakers aren't wage earners but I do like tokens of appreciation. ;)
I'd love to try it though and move my way towards "editorship". More than writing, I love reading and scrutinizing grammar. Now, I'm not exactly the grammar nazi people might think of me. I just know the basics and I like being good at it. I'm still learning and trying not to forget but there it is --- I love to edit other people's works.
I'm not very organized myself but I used to find joy in researching, locating, and reserving venues and speakers, and bullying people into the logistics of a certain event. Sure, I don't like the pressure of being head but if I get into the business, the head would be the client, no? I'd just be the body doing the bloody work. Plus, I won't be shelling out any moolahs from my own pocket. Also, I like coordinating with people - as long as they're not the same people for every friggin' event.
