Explanation: I created Hester Prynne’s Facebook in a way that I feel reflects her personality and actions throughout The Scarlet Letter. I listed her relationship status as “It’s complicated”, since she is still married to Roger Chillingworth, but the father of Pearl is Arthur Dimmesdale, who she is not in a steady relationship with. I listed some of her activities as reading, walking for health, cooking, and praying. I feel that these activities are things that a real life Hester Prynne would participate in, judging by her personality in the novel. I listed one of Hester’s interests as fashion, because she makes elaborate clothing for her daughter and others in the community. I also listed one of her interests as all colors other than red, because the Scarlet Letter on her chest is red, therefore I do not think she would enjoy that color. I listed her favorite music as Christian Rap, because I feel that it is a quirky characteristic that doesn’t quite fit her character, which makes her very human. One of her favorite movies would be Easy A, because it loosely applies to her life experiences. Advanced Needlepoint Techniques is listed as one of her favorite books because she enjoys sewing and does it for charity work. Hester has been put into the group entitled “I bet I can find 2,000 people on Facebook who hate the color red!”, because the Scarlet Letter is red and is her punishment for sin. I also put her in the group entitled “Join if you are blessed to have a daughter in your life!”, because Pearl Prynne is what makes Hester’s life happy. I have shown that hester likes the pages entitled “Poetry” and “Old English” because she speaks in Old English, which leads me to the conclusion that she would most likely enjoy poetry. I made Hester’s seven year old daughter, Pearl, write on her wall on her Facebook page inquiring what the Scarlet Letter means because it is a major event in the novel. I included the random letters and numbers in Pearl’s post to show her youth and carelessness in typing. I included lyrics to “Love Story” by Taylor Swift as one of Hester Prynne’s three status updates because I feel that a modern day Hester would use the lyrics to describe her feelings about her current relationship status. Finally, I included a news-feed update of Hester Prynne attending Arthur Dimmesdale’s birthday party. I feel that she would be attending this event because they are becoming closer throughout the novel, and I feel he would invite her to this type of event.
