Essay Question: Other than the required pretty operation, what are the major differences between the future pretty society and our own society? • There are significant differences between our society and the pretty society. For example, there is much less violence in the pretty society. Its members do not solve problems by war, but by fair, logical decisions. Also, the members of the society do not experience very many stressful situations due to lesions on their brains. The residents’ ways of thinking is by far the greatest difference between our society and the futuristic pretty society. From the time our society’s members are very young, we are most likely taught to believe that diversity is one of the greatest things about today’s world. In the futuristic pretty society, the residents are taught that all humans should look extremely similar. This is what they consider to be beautiful. Another difference between the societies is that the pretty society is much more eco-friendly than today’s society. Finally, the government controls the pretty society much more than our current government. Everyone is forced to undergo the pretty operation when they turn sixteen years old, even though there is a small minority that does not want to do so.
