2, 3, 4, 5, 1. Essay Question: How does reuniting with her family change Lauren McKaslin throughout the novel? What opinions about life did she possess in the beginning of her experience, as compared to opinions she possesses later in the story? In the beginning of the novel, Lauren McKaslin is very shy and does not trust others easily because of past experiences. She fears men and does not want to get hurt. Lauren protects herself by building metaphorical walls around her and not letting others become close to her. After meeting Caleb, Lauren begins to realize that not all men are dangerous and she begins to desire a close relationship with him. The greatest thing that Lauren learns throughout "A McKaslin Homecoming" is that accepting others into her life will not always mean getting hurt.
