Charles Darwin, an English naturalist, was born in Shrewsbury on February 12th of 1809. He attended the Anglican Shrewsbury School as a boarder throughout his early years, and spend the summer of 1825 working as an apprentice doctor by his Father's side. He then went on to attend the University of Edinburgh Medical School. While there, he became interested in taxonomy and natural history. After a few years of struggles to pursue his new found goals, he set out on the HMS Beagle, spending most of his time on land making geological discoveries. During his voyage, Darwin also became interested in the theory of evolution. From his doscoveries, he developed his own theory of natural selection. After many more years of investigation, Darwin presented his ideas in his own novel, "On the Origin of Species", which became widely popular. Charles Darwin died on the 19th of April in 1882 due to unknown causes.
