Usain Bolt was born on August 21, 1986 in Trelawny, Jamaica. As a child, he attended Waldensia Primary and All-Age School, where he first showed interest in running. By the time Bolt was 12 years old, he had become the school's fastest runner over the 100 metres. While he attended William Knibb Memorial High School, Bolt was urged to do track and field events after coaches recognized his potential. After he had won a few less prominent competitions, he began to become widely known after the 2002 World Championships, in which he received another gold medal. He won again in the 2003 World Youth Championships, and set a new record. Bolt turned professional in 2004, under a new coach, and went on to compete in the 2004 Athens Olympics, the 2005 World Championships, the 2006 Commonwealth Games, the 2006 Athletissima Grand Prix, the 2007 World Championships, and the 2008 Summer Beijing Olympics.
