Swimming is an activity tht has been done since the beginning of time. It was invented when the first person who jumped in a deep amount of water learned how to move their arms and legs so as to not sink in the pool of water. Swimming is an activity that can be done throughout one's entire lifetime. It is also an activity that interests me greatly. I find it interesting because it is extremely fun and has many health benefits. I have always loved being active, and swimming is a wonderful activity to fulfill that need. Swimming can be done at many local places, including countless YMCAs and swim clubs, such as Mineral Beach and Pine Cove. Swimming can be done anywhere there is a body of water, which is just one of its great aspects. I would love to go to a place like Hawaii to pursue swimming, because they have beautiful places that are made to do just that. There are countless health benefits of swimming. It works all of the muscles of the body, rather than just one group of muscles. It develops general strength in the body, since moving through the water requires all of the body's parts. Swimming also develops cardiovascular strength and endurance. It is also great aerobic exercise. Swimming is a workout that is diverse, which is why it is an activity that one can pursue their whole life. It also benefits mental health in the way that it is calming, and exercise can make one feel good about oneself. Finally, swimming promotes social health because it can be done with others who share an interest in it as well. Swimming does not require much equipment. Competitive levels of the activity may require certain kinds of swimming goggles, which protect the eyes underwater. Certain swimming trunks or suits are also required on competitive levels of swimming. Goggles range in prices from very inexpensive amounts to around thirty dollars or more. Swimming trunks and suits can cost hundreds of dollars. In conclusion, swimming is an activity that does not require very much equipment. People have been swimming for millions of years. It is widely known as an extremely enjoyable activity. Those who swim experience the benefits of physical strength and good mental health. Swimming will forever be an actvity that improves the quality of life.
