In the beginning of the novel, Annabelle is unsure of Owen and does not know what to expect of him. She judges him by the way he looks and dresses, and does not get to know the real him. Owen also judges Annabelle by her friends and career, never taking the time to want to know her. When Owen gives Annabelle a ride home and a few CDs to listen to one day after school, her outlook of him begins to change. As they converse about music and personal matters more each day, their feelings begin to grow into romantic connections.
