"When the train makes a brief stop for fuel, we're allowed to go outside for some fresh air." Peeta takes my hand in his as we walk down the train tracks, and all I can think about is how I've never been so happy to be with anyone. Not even Gale can compare to this wonderful boy with the bread, who helped so long ago when I needed it most. The thought of seeing Gale has been stowed away in my mind for a good while until this moment. All I know is that I will have to deal with all of those feelings the moment when we step off of the train back home. When tons of photographers and family members will be anxiously awaiting responses and reactions. I don't know yet what I will do, but what I do know is that all of the coaching that Haymitch has provided is no longer needed. Coaching me has only made me realize my true feelings for Peeta, and how I almost can't wait for our new life to start back in District 12. Gale must have been watching the broadcast since it began, right? Maybe, I think, it will not be as hard as I imagine to break away from my previous feelings. "I can't believe I ever doubted that I could love someone so much," I say. Peeta, taking me in his arms, kisses my forehead silently. It seems as though words are no longer needed, so we just stand in content silence before walking back to the train. Peeta and I curl up on one of the train's side benches for the night. I wake a few times throughout the night, glancing at Peeta in peaceful slumber next to me. Cinna and Haymitch are there to greet us early in the morning. I pack up the last of my belongings from the sink in my chamber, stopping to stare at myself in the mirror. I've realized, I am no longer just Katniss Everdeen. Katniss Everdeen, the girl who lives in the Seam and runs around through the forest with Gale to find food, has now blossomed into a new girl. This new version of Katniss is still the same at heart, but stronger and ready to love. I am glad I have not lost sight completely of my old self. After an hour or so more of last minute packing and conversations with Cinna, I see the District 12 station appear through the window on my right. I turn to see Peeta standing directly behind me, smiling as though he is ready to claim a much deserved prize. "Are you ready to begin your new life as the winners of the 74th annual Hunger Games?", asks Haymitch. Peeta and I exchange a look and nod. "More than ready, Haymitch," Peeta replies. Upon hearing the doors swoosh open, we enter the station to be greeted by the expected mob of anxious sponsors and photographers, rejoicing family members and friends, and celebrating game-watches of District 12. Though we had already assumed it, our victory was clearly not expected. I stop a moment, feeing the cool breeze flowing through my long hair and flowing dress, to take in the fact that I am home. I am home with Peeta Mellark, ready to begin our lives together as the heroes of District 12. It seems to be only the beginning of the great happiness I now have as my own when Primrose rushes to the front of the crowd and straight into my arms.
