What a beautiful face I have found in this place that is circling all round the sun. What a beautiful dream that could flash on the screen in a blink of an eye and be gone from me. Let me hold it close and keep it here with me. And one day we will die and our ashes will fly from the aeroplane over the sea. But for now we are young, let us lay in the sun and LIST every beautiful thing we see.

  • Once a week focus on a different sense (touch, smell, taste, sound, sight) for just one day. Hone in on its uniqueness.
  • Spend 10 minutes thinking compassionate thoughts about yourself (or someone else who needs it)
  • Open your eyes after having closed them for several minutes. Imagine you have just been given the gift of life, much like a baby.
  • Imagine the center of a spinning wheel: focus on the stillness.
  • In zen, your practice should be to make your movie screen clear white sometimes, with no images, to understand that the blank white screen is the beginning and to place your mind there often.
  • Count up and each time a thought enters into your head begin then count again from 1...trying to clear your mind and recognize what thoughts are.
  • Sit and smile from every part of your body...feel your feet smiling, your liver, your heart, your mouth, your hands smiling.
  • Repeat the words " I am" slowly and quietly in your mind.
  • Simply focus on your breath...your breath rising and falling and where your breath hits on your lips and nose.
  • Begin with your thoughts, then move to feeling present in your body, then become aware of things around you, continue to move slowly outward, above the house, etc.
  • "Meditation on the corpse": think about your body in the ground, as it slowly rots away and is fed on by worms
  • Mantra: choose a word or phrase and repeat it in your mind.
  • Visualize the negative voice in your mind as an external being in the room with you. If it is outside of you, it is easier to fight.
  • Count to ten slowly backwards.
