What a beautiful face I have found in this place that is circling all round the sun. What a beautiful dream that could flash on the screen in a blink of an eye and be gone from me. Let me hold it close and keep it here with me. And one day we will die and our ashes will fly from the aeroplane over the sea. But for now we are young, let us lay in the sun and LIST every beautiful thing we see.

MADRID: (Only You Boutique Hotel - in Salesas - loved)

  • Madrid is beautiful —for strolls down streets with shops, plazas, and restaurants. No major sites.
  • RETIRO PARK: palacio de cristal and small botanical garden

  • La Latina Neighborhood
    • El Rastro — Sundays (massive flea market covering the streets + all the streets around it are filled with little antique shops and vendors)

    • Calle de la Cava Alta and baha

    • Surrounding shops: Calle Ribera de Curtidores – main flea street, Plaza de Cascorro – center of the market, Calle Carlos Arniches – antiques and oddities, Calle Mira el Sol – vintage furniture + collectibles

  • Maxime Boutique Hotel - velvet room on sweet park.
  • Shoo Loong Kan Hotpot (so fun to eat here a bit north and near airport but there’s also a nice mall and waterfront nearby: Parque Das Nacoes)
  • Intendente (less concentrated but interesting, will one day be gentrified): Groovie Records, Retro City Lisbon Vintage shop, Largo do Intendente Pina Manique: a square with this beautiful shop “A Vida Portuguesa” and underground bar/club: Casa Independente, main street: Avenida Almirante Reis
  • City Tour by electric car

    • LX Factory market - (Creative Market) + Ler Devagar — cool bookstore.

TIDBITS:

  • Rideshare: Use bolt in portugal and cabify in spain
  • Marrakesh: ask petit taxis to turn the meter on. At airport you pay in advance for taxi with a machine just outside the airport.
  • Cash for Marrakesh - Use bank ATMs only. Look for: Société Générale, Bank of Africa, BMCI - Always choose THIS option on screen: “Decline conversion” or “Charge local currency (MAD)”
