ICELAND:
- August (sun sets around 10:30pm and rises super early this time of year - BRING face mask for sleeping as some rooms don't have great curtains).
- Don't need cash...EVERY place takes card.
- Get gravel etc insurance on car...we had a rock crack our window on a decent road.
- Bring boardgames, etc, not anything to do in any of the towns at night
- July 31st weekend is national holiday for camping (consider traffic - double check holiday).
- Time change jet-lag is strong because of so much sunlight.
- Extra daylight helps with sightseeing (hiking). We were on a hike at 10pm one night. You can do a lot in one day.
- Driving super easy - no cars on road - simple two lane highway with passing cars okay.
- 4 x 4 would have made some drives easier and faster (but they cost more).
- NO charge for any of the park sights.
- It is very expensive (food and lodging) Basic room airbnb in a shared house around $125. Nicer hotels $400. Pizza like $30. Most meals per person $30ish. Simple meals easily $65+ for two people. Not much food around aside from pizzas, burgers, fish except in Reykjavik.
- No tipping necessary anywhere.
