I let Harry make the double date plans. I was a bit sad since he picked a night where I already had plans to head to the movies with a group of friends. But it wasn't all the time that Jade got together with her brother. Also Kipp was free that night.
We ended up getting a Uber. Neither of us felt like driving. Seattle could really suck driving at night. Plus, we weren't sure about the drinks situation. To drink a lot or not. We made idle chat for a lifetime. Finally, Jade saw Harry and Bailey approach them.
"Glad you two could make it" Jade huffed, more from the cold than anything. "Thought it would just be the two of us" Jade said, lightly giving Kipp a nudge.
"Meet the real life Harry Potter" Jade eyed Kipp. Letting the introductions take place outside Seattle’s thriving Ballard neighborhood. Jade opened the Staple & Fancy Mercantile doors and the rest followed. Harry always loved beautifully renovated early 1900’s buildings. It was no wonder why he chose this place to dine at tonight. The walls were all dark wood. The lighting made everything seem even more romantic.
The waiter was suddenly at their table. He told us how the wine list was Euro-centric with a thoughtful selection of Northwest wines and also went on about the specials of the night. They got two bottles of wine - a red and white. Ones none of them had had before.
Jade ordered the chicken parmigiano. She always did. It was her ultimate favorite restaurant food to get. This place was also very Italian. It worked in her favor.
"Jade and I actually were best friends growing up" Bailey told the table. "Back then I didn't really pay attention to Harry here. He was kind of a dork back then. Well.. still is. But he's my dork now" she beamed in Kipp's direction. The table erupted in laughter.
Jade already told Kipp about her and Bailey. She didn't want any awkwardness at finding out that once upon a time Jade and Bailey were kind of together. A thing Jade still thought about. About the days when Smith wasn't hers anymore. Jade chuckled at something Kipp said. She wasn't paying attention. Jade excused herself and went to the bathroom. She needed to get herself under control again. She didn't want to think of the past or quite frankly about Smith right now. She walked back out there. A spring in her step.
"I had a great time" Jade announced to Kipp. "I think my brother actually likes you" she stated. "We should do this again" drunk Jade uttered. She had a little too much food and even more wine. Red and white wine cruising through her. The Uber let Kipp off first.
// Jade's house Jade unlocked her door. It only took her three tries. Hell, she felt like celebrating that fact alone. Silently Jade made her body move into her bedroom. Smith was there on the bed. A book in hand.
"How was it? Must have been odd seeing those two together" Smith's voice said a little too loudly for Jade's liking.
"Fine" stumbled out. Kicking her heels off.
"Nice dress" his eyes looking up and down in approval. "This old thing" she mused. Quickly taking that off too. Smith knew about Harry and Bailey but no clue that Kipp was there. Basically being his replacement for the night.
Jade squeezed into bed. Resting her aching head on his chest. The lullaby making her fall asleep. Smith tucked her in.
