Rafaella hadn't been to El Sol in forever it seemed. She was surprised how it never changed. Always the same old people, the same boring songs. It was as if they never wanted to make the songs their own. The songs blended in to everything else. It was just background music to Rafaella that night. Nobody really good came on. People were cheering. Raf thought everyone must have earplugs in. The current singer was bloody awful.
Raf noticed Maite squeeze around a few people to get outside. It was a shame Rafaella didn't get to engage in conversation with her. Raf wasn't sure if she was leaving for good or just needed some fresh air.
Rafaella wondered why she bothered to come. Why she was still there. The bartender was pretty good looking. Rafaella sat on one of the empty barstools. She felt lucky to find the spot. It really was one of the best places to people watch and see the performances dead on.
“Then count all the ones who stayed.” Ana demanded of the bartender. Raf sighed into her drink. Ana really needed to relax a little. Rafaella never was one to buy drinks for females but figured she'd make the exception this once. The tension surrounding her and Daniel was crazy.
“Need a drink?” Raf casually asked as Ana sat down on the barstool beside me.
“No, I’m working. Thanks for the offer.” Ana said. Once Ana found out it was paid for she downed the drink like a champ.
“Thanks, Rafaella. I really needed that.” Ana said while placing the now empty drink on the bar. Rafaella trying to get Ana to visit her work. Knowing how tense her career could be.
Ana laughed. “That’s true. I promise, I’ll come,” assuring Raf. “Are you here for the competition?”
“Oh, so that’s the terrible noise I’m hearing on stage?” she said bluntly. “I’m just here for the drinks.” Rafaella was sure that if Ana had another drink that the drink in question would have been spraying out of her mouth at her blunt remark.
The music seemed to start up again. A girl was on stage now. Ana seemed to be transfixed by her. A gold mask hid her face. Her curls everywhere. Her voice was like heaven. This girl could never just be background music - she was the music. The way she sang gave Rafaella goosebumps. It was so seductive yet sweet. A yearning of sorts. Rafaella applauded when the song was over. She even felt like screaming "encore" but took another drink instead as Ana walked away to get a better view.
If you later asked her what the girl was wearing or looked like, Raf wouldn't remember. There would be a debate on if she had a mask or not. The only thing everyone agreed with was that the girl could truly sing, She was unique. She should be on The Voice or somewhere were talent was needed.
