- the KAKIN ROYALS are ostensibly planning to bring their citizens to settle the dark continent but their true motive for the journey is to conduct their succession war between the princes. it appears as if the citizens aboard the boat are present for the purpose of being controlled and used as pawns/sacrifices by the princes throughout the succession war.
- each kakin prince has a PARASITIC NEN BEAST bestowed upon them by the egg ceremony. each manifests differently, presumably based on their princes personality and aura, and feeds upon their hosts nen. the princes themselves, even if nen users, cannot observe the parasites, though all the princes are now aware of them due to kurapika's announcement. nen parasites cannot attack other nen parasites, nor can they harm other princes directly.
- BEYOND wants to explore the dark continent. he has hired a crew, including ging and pariston, to back him up, and recruited the kakin royals to fund the expedition. he is currently in custody of the hunters at the behest of the v5, but plans to escape.
- the V5 cant openly stop the kakin from undertaking the dark continent expedition without war, so they have put the hunters in charge of escorting (and stopping) beyond. the official journey is to end at the new continent.
- the ZODIACS want to bring back cool stuff from the dark continent and prevent beyond from escaping their custody, with the trust of the v5 and various bureaucratic organizations at risk. they must also deal with politics, both external (pressure from the v5, the kakin succession war) and internal (betrayal, conflict between zodiac factions)
- KURAPIKA’s primary goal is access to tsiedrich, the fourth prince and the owner of the final pair of scarlet eyes. he has recruited a bunch of his friends to help him (melody, hanzo, izunabi, and basho) but is now stuck in the middle of the succession war, and in his new role as the bodyguard protecting the 14th prince, prince woble. he is also currently working closely with mizaistom of the zodiacs in order to combat beyond and his allies, and has succeeded in identifying the traitor within the zodiacs, saiyu, and stopping beyond’s infiltrators from passing the hunter exam.
- PARISTON wants to antagonize the hunter association and make ging hate him back. he plans to release chimera ant soldiers around the world to mess with the hunter association. he currently works for beyond, motives unclear.
- GING wants to find don freecs, his ancestor and the author of the only known guide to the dark continent. ging believes don is still alive in the dark continent and working on finishing his guide. he currently works for beyond because he agrees with beyond’s attitude of wanting to explore the dark continent without restrictions or regulations. he also wants to stop pariston from fucking everything up.
- HISOKA wants to kill the phantom troupe. he was killed in his fight with chrollo but revived himself.
- the PHANTOM TROUPE wants to go on boat to steal stuff. they are currently being hunted by hisoka, who they believe dead. shalnark and kortopi were killed by hisoka. machi was the only spider who knew hisoka was alive following his fight with chrollo. chrollo is currently on the black whale, status of the other spiders unknown.
