- highlights
- 4/3: visited ben's house in odenton. cynthia and her now fiancee chris were able to join us! it was nice to see andrew, his still gf tam, ben + naomi + duncan, and kuo again. i'm happy to know them all as people and even if we're not all super acquainted or deep friends, it's nice to laugh and hang out together.
- i could tell cris wanted to leave earlier than i did, but i was pretty drained after we got back, too. i guess we're homebodies.
- when we were driving up, we listened to a early retirement podcast and it helped cris and i think about what we wanted to do for our RE. portugal --> japan etc?
- 4/5 - 4/8 travel to bensalem, PA. ate at chili's, carrabbas, etc. bought sushi at grocery store (giant) before driving home.
- thoughts
- 4/9 i really like my andar leggings. they're the right balance of affordable, quality, durable, and well-fitting! they're compressive, and do roll down a bit.
- 4/11 really looking at fire more closely. feeling more solidified in plan. re-read how to retire early by robert charton and work optional by tanya hester
- 4/19 weirdly stressed at work. i think i need to stop drinking coffee as its messing up my sleep/anxiety/heartrate
- 4/19 things i won't miss about work
- vague feelings of not knowing what i'm doing. work politics.
- anxiety / stress from composing emails, speaking up during meetings.
- being nudged to do things or act a certain way from team's (well intentioned) suggestions
- 4/24 these 4 days off have been really great. i've worked out as much as i wanted, ate pretty balanced meals, spent quality time with curisu, slept well, watched a dumb horror movie. woooo
- 4/24 chatted with gureisu about lots of things:
- work, whether it can meet some of your values your not (gureisu talked with a career coach and found it helpful in the past). trying to find your own style of leadership or what you want your next 'position' or role to be like.
- whether something continues perpetually or not as seen as a 'success' or 'failure'. gureisu didn't agree w the tweet i showed her - she does thing that things ending are inherently sad, when i'm more neutral about it.
- her sister has a great relationship currently with her boss. they're a great mentor, they can speak openly to each other and she can send them memes. she'll be going for promotion next year, apparently.
- i agree w her that work is good. but i just don't mind if its self-directed, entrepreneurial, etc. it doesn't need to be work done through a 9-to-5 for me to feel 'productive'. i'm apparently an 'upholder' and she's an 'obliger' and can't tell self-direct anything unless she's external motivated, while i question external directions/asks and am highly internally motivated.
- 4/26 work
- went into the office (NSI bldg) the past 2 days, it makes me tired to interact in person. but both days were really informative and fun, i really like katrina's energy and grace. she always seems so genuine, professional, but also someone i feel like i could certainly be friends with. i want to be as on point as she is, with talking to difficult concepts at work or projects she leads.
- i prioritized walking before work both days and i'm glad i did. it always starts the day off on a positive note.
- after work, dad called me talking about nikki's 'skin tag' on her neck being inflamed. we're worried it might get infected. i scheduled a vet appt for sunday 5/1 @ 8:40am

- "we trade our time, energy, and brain space for a paycheck. in essence, we've already paid for the money itself by the time it arrives in our hands."

- "every dollar you can avoid spending per week is at least $300 you don't have to save for retirement"
- "conquer impatience: nearly everyone we kow who achieved early retirement hit a patch of impatience or two while in the savings phase. ...the impatience grew out of a feeling of burnout at work, something that plenty of people who aren't saving for early retirement experience. ...it's possible that our secret plans actually exacerbated our feeling of burnout"

- "stop thinking about what your money can buy. start thinking about what your money can earn. and then think about what the money it earns can earn. once you begin to do this, you'll start to see that when you spend money, not only is that money gone forever, the money it might have earned is gone as well."
