- doyoung: slytherin; doyoung comes from a family which has long been tied with the house of gryffindor (his family name practically understood as being synonymous with "gryffindor"), so imagine everyone's surprise when the youngest son of the kim family ends up being sorted into slytherin; with that said, doyoung is not the first non-gryffindor in his family ever, but he is the first slytherin ever, and the first non-gryffindor in decades; his brother, gongmyung, is the star chaser (and eventual captain) of the gryffindor quidditch team, he follows in his mother's footsteps (she's a retired professional quidditch player who played for the holyhead harpies), doyoung, on the other hand, has not even the slightest interest in the sport - he would genuinely rather sit through 10 consecutive hours of history of magic a day than have to ever even touch a broom; as a result of his family lineage and his particular 'black sheep' status, he enters hogwarts with an infinite amount of insecurity and (self-inflicted) burden (his family accept him for who he is and have absolutely no problem with the sorting, they were of course very surprised and taken aback at first, but they very quickly assured doyoung that his sorting makes absolutely no difference at all, yet doyoung cannot bring himself to believe them); thankfully, doyoung comes to a certain degree of self-acceptance by his 4th/5th years, boosted by the confidence he has in his performance at school (and enough self-realisation to admit that he is indeed a great wizard), and slowly but surely, he comes to take pride in being a slytherin too; he eventually comes to be a prefect and then head boy for his house
- taeyong: hufflepuff; muggle-born, first wizard in his family; soft-spoken, was very nervous when first coming to hogwarts, but he works extremely hard and is a very good wizard so he comes to adjust; it’s partially all thanks to the great support of his friends (he meets his two closest friends since 1st year on the train: johnny, yuta; the friend group expands as the years pass); (his parents are also supporting)
- johnny: gryffindor; pure-blood, long line of gryffs, knows kim family quite well, though johnny had always spoken to gongmyung more than dy; when dy enters hogwarts he makes it a point to look out for him (partial request of his brother gm - he knows dy has too much pride to ask for help and dy also really doesn’t want to be in the shadow of his popular bro); johnny and dy become very close
- yuta: slytherin; half-blood (his mom’s side of the family is magical); grew up in muggle osaka; snarky dude, can come off as a bit of an asshole but anyone who actually knows will will tell you he’s an absolute sweetheart and that he just likes to mess with you a little; gets to know dy through johnny and also by being in the same house
- jaehyun: ravenclaw; half-blood (father is a wizard, lived in muggle seoul); enters a year after dy, they met on the train; jh eventually takes pretty much all classes alongside dy bc he’s very smart; he is very easily taken by everyone in the friend group (everybody loves jaehyun)
- taeil: ravenclaw (only bc he sorted himself in this house in osaka... i must respect his choice); half-blood; the eldest of the group, everyone adores him; a good wholesome wizard always, looking out for others; tutors 1st year wizards in his 6th and 7th years; johnny used to follow him around like a lost puppy when he first arrived at hogwarts; now he just Shamelessly Pursues him
- winwin: gryffindor (again... only bc he sorted himself in this house); pure-blood; from china; enters same year as jaehyun and meets him in potions class; he’s a very smart guy but he’s also quite clumsy; still aces his tests and gets great grades at the end of the day; good at duelling; don’t ever put him on a broom, it’s disastrous
- ten: hufflepuff; half-blood; the sweetest wizard!! everyone is friends with him, even despite the fact that he will most certainly blow up your potion or accidentally hex you into growing antlers, everyone still wants to be his partner in class; he's best friends with johnny, doyoung considers him his antagonist (dy just can't stand how cheery ten is, but also how ten seems to know him so well - ten ends up being kind of like dy's unofficial [and unwanted] therapist)
- kun: ravenclaw
- jungwoo: hufflepuff
- lucas: gryffindor
- mark: gryffindor; half-blood; from canada, had been living in muggle vancouver with his family for the past few years before he was accepted into hogwarts; but he was close to all his family members on his magical side (mom), made him a very Good and Prepared wizard; is practically adopted by the gang when he enters 1st year (he's great at quidditch - what exactly isn't he good at? - and manages to befriend johnny in this way, as he too, enjoyed playing; johnny does eventually become gryffindor team captain; much LATER mark is his successor); but truth be told, his grades could use a little work; everyone adores him, dy and ty are constantly fighting over who’s the Mom
- xiaojun: hufflepuff;
- hendery: hufflepuff;
- renjun: ravenclaw, half-blood; he was living in muggle jilin before attending hogwarts; the only raven in the friend group (ot7 dream); very diligent and good at studies, decent dueller, terrible at quidditch, spends a lot of time in the common room reading; jeno eventually gets better at answering the ravenclaw eagle knocker’s puzzles and riddles in order to come and hang out with renjun and coax him out of the tower; in reality he would often have to wait for someone else to come and help him inside and eventually after like the 30th time he came the eagle knocker appears to miraculously take some pity on him and let him in even when his answers are really hopeless; when jeno is really determined though, he does manage to give answers that are thought provoking enough for the eagle knocker to genuinely approve; haechan is actually the first person to befriend him, they had a shared transfiguration class in 1st year; oftentimes haechan is already there chilling with renjun when jeno finally makes it into the ravenclaw dorm, he bemoans the fact that he never helps him in but he guesses that's just what he gets for having a slytherin best friend; haechan always tells renjun that he would have made a great slytherin, especially with his innocent boy facade
- jeno: hufflepuff, pure-blood
- haechan: slytherin; pure-blood, long line of slyths; he’s a bit conflicted by his upbringing, which is why he adopts the nickname haechan and uses it on campus instead of his real name, lee donghyuck - he doesn't want anyone recognising what family he comes from); he’s warm/kind hearted at the core; a part of him wished he was sorted into another house but also knew that him being in slyth was the only way (he, like dy, comes to find comfort in it by his 4th year); doyoung tutors him and they fight a lot but doyoung really adores him; the second adoptee of the group, though hc had some insecurities about it in the beginning, especially in comparison to mark he felt like he was just kind of intruding a tight-knit circle of friends at the beginning; he plays a lot of pranks on his hyungs; he was adopted through being friends with mark; dy sits him down and makes sure he knows he’s appreciated (he explains that he shows his appreciation in different ways but he cares about both of them equally - “do you want me to smother you the same way i smother mark?” hc wrinkles his nose in disgust “oh, god no” “exactly" dy smiles)

- chenle: gryffindor, pure-blood; comes from a very powerful family in china, renjun had heard of him before, in fact a lot of people had; haechan and chenle relate on this matter, except chenle had never been ashamed of his upbringing; he knows that those who don't know him might just assume that he is a spoiled brat but he knows himself and he doesn't really care what people think, only his friends matter to him;
