When ten-year-old Arata Suzuki chased a strange-looking fox away from an injured doe while exploring the woods behind his home, the last thing he expected was for the doe to take on a human form in a flash of light. Introducing herself as Ichika, the angel thanked the boy for saving his life, and, to show her gratitude, told the child that she would grant him a wish — any wish at all. Arata, stunned and amazed by what he saw before him, wished for Ichika to be his best friend.
