They have many adaptations. First, they have large wrist bones located on each paw. They have a sixth "thumb" that it used for eating, and allows the Red Panda to grasp the bamboo tightly. Their tails assist them in balance and are used as pillows that prevent heat loss.

They are inaccessible to heavier predators, because of their small body mass. They are also excellent climbers, because of large, curved claws.
