what you will need:
- fabric (any kind works. if you can't afford to personalize it, i just bought a yard of minky fabric.)
- herbs and crystals (will vary depending on what you intend. here's resources of metaphysical properties for crystals and herbs.)
- ribbons and charms (optional, but it helps to personalize them in some form.)
- stuffing
- sewing materials
- scissors (for sewing and for paper)
- paper (to make a template)
- something to mark both paper and/or fabric (e.g. sharpie)
instructions:
- make a template using paper. draw a general shape of a person, and cut it out with your (paper-specific) scissors.
- fold the fabric onto itself and draw around your template on the back of it. you should have two pieces of fabric in that shape.
- stitch the poppet together mostly, leave an opening. a running stitch is what i did.
- put your herbs, crystals, and stuffing into the poppet; no particular order, just fit in what you can. i typically put the stuffing in first for the legs and then fill up to the body in crystals and herbs.
- put a taglock of some form into the head of the poppet. you can find examples here, but some things i've used include a writing of their own name and, for a specific, sysmate of a partner system, a pluralkit member id.
- put a little more stuffing if needed, and stitch the poppet's head shut.
- if you bought ribbons and maybe charms, decorate them! a cute bow around the next of the poppet is always great, alongside attaching a charm to the ribbon. it's not the most extravagant decor, but it helps to differentiate them if you have multiple + make them cute. : )
- activate it. here's a guide on activating and releasing (parts 3 and 4). only release it when its purpose is done. be kind to your poppet and thank it for its service, on my behalf. : )
