in Celebrity Skin, Hole trades in their usual whiskey-gargling and mascara-smearing genre of chaos of for a new, more charming chaos. very much ahead of its time, i would absolutely say that this is a must-hear lp full of lyrics and emotions that most girls can relate to; especially nowadays as more girls recognize the negative effects of consumerism on the concept of girlhood. Celebrity Skin, like Live Through This (1994), presents a pissed-off-at-the-world attitude but recognizes that there's growth to be made and that maturity is seen in the more sleek and polished production that this record offers in comparison to Hole's other works. coupled with this upgraded production, no matter what you think of Courtney Love, it's undeniable how beautiful this album is; the contrast of honest commentary and raspy vocals with clean guitar riffs and excellent drums combining in harmony to create what it feels like to be a girl in today's world in sonic form. in my opinion, Celebrity Skin is quite easily Hole's best record and a one that is full of rawness, sincerity, and reflection.
