• When I get obsessed with something, I never see it coming, but when it hits, it hits hard and whatever the current obsession is becomes a huuuge part of my current life until the obsession dies down.
    • According to the Enneagram Made Easy, 4's (Romantics–My personality type) as children often will latch on to a personal hero–be it a parent, teacher, friend, celebrity, etc. This probably has something to do with that.
  • There have been art obsessions.
    • Making mixes with elaborate cases.
    • Making gigantic pop-art paintings of various musicians.
    • Embroidering.
    • Collage-ing.
    • Journaling in very tiny handwriting on elaborately-decorated pages.
      • That one lasted nearly 2 years. I think part of why it stopped was because I started working and then never seemed to have the time.
        • I kind of miss it sometimes and worry that with nothing written down, I will never have anything to remember my very enjoyable and occasionally shitty developmental years.
    • Hollowing out books and creating 3-dimensional scenes within the pages.
    • Doing quick 5-minute sketches of people playing music.
    • Making teeny-tiny dioramas in empty Altoid tins.
    • You get the idea.
  • There have been TV obsessions.
    • Like the Mighty Boosh.
    • Arrested Development.
    • Law and Order SVU.
    • Skins.
    • The Simpsons.
      • Dude, when I was a kid, my Simpsons obsession was out of control...I could quote every line, name every character, recite every episode plot. Let me tell you, IT WAS ANNOYING.
    • The current ones are South Park and Criminal Minds.
      • Because Randy Marsh is a god and Dr. Spencer Reid can analyze me any time.
  • There have been random obsessions.
  • And there have been musical obsessions.
    • The Beatles were my first real one.
      • They were pretty all I listened to during 9th grade, and I was so nuts over them that I wrote my thesis paper that year on how the Beatles changed the world through music, fashion, and religion.
    • Then there was the Strokes.
      • That was a special one because it was a band within my generation, one that I could watch progress and call my own.
      • I first heard them one Friday in February when I was 14 and my best friend Evelyn played the song "12:51" for me over the phone.
      • They were my first concert and it was amazing.
      • They might actually be my very favorite band.
      • And I really want them to put out that damn 4th album!
    • Then there was the Kings Of Leon one.
      • That one was probably the biggest. They were all I listened to and me and another one of my best friends, Rachel, had jokingly resolved that I would marry Matthew and she would marry Jared and our celebrity couple names would be Matthryne and Jarechel.
      • That one lasted from 10th through the end of highschool and everyone thought of us as the girls who loved Kings Of Leon and teased us about it.
      • Now of course, Only By The Night is out and everyone is obsessed with them.
      • Still love KOL, but the obsession fizzled out by the time I was 18. Then I went a year without any band with life-changing albums to go nuts over.
    • Until now. I've finally realized the goodness that is Radiohead.
      • I knew about them for years, but I used to be friends with this guy, and he was obsessed with them and would always try to get me to listen to them. After the friendship ended really unpleasantly, I'd still hear him talking about Radiohead and sounding super-pretentious, so it kind of left a bad taste in my mouth...and ears...and memory...where they were concerned.
      • But then I randomly decided to listen to a couple songs of theirs and had kind of a "Where Have You Been All My Life?!" moments.
      • I really hope I can see them live before they break up. That would be amazing.
  • I enjoy these obsessive periods. In fact, I'm going to pause Radiohead now and go make a sangwich and watch some Criminal Minds.
