Divide an hour into three or four equal sections, such as “Professional, Academic, Personal” or “Work, Writing, Personal.” One of the sections should include writing and one of the sections should be free time. Then set a looping 15 or 20 minute timer. During each section, do tasks related to that section. The advantages of this method are:

  • No need to concentrate for too long on one thing
  • No need to feel guilty about, say, working on office work when you have writing you need to do because you will be writing in another 15-20 minutes. (I often freeze up because there are so many different things to do and doing one means neglecting the others)
  • Plenty of free time
  • It gets things done, which is the goal of any anti-procrastination method
