Pros

  • It is a city
  • Have lived there before
    • Know the subway system, will not get lost
    • Know the train system, will not get lost
    • Already know where to go to buy clothes, food, books, music, etc.
  • Good public transportation, thus do not need a car
  • Less expensive than NYC
  • Less than a 2 hour ride to NYC, close to Washington, etc
  • Great shopping: Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters, American Apparel and H&M are all within blocks of one another
    • Thus do not have to buy things online, can window shop again!
  • First Fridays are fun
  • Living on my own is more fun than not
    • Having housemates my own age again would be lovely
  • Know the area where I want to live, might actually be able to afford it
  • Better concerts, more often
  • Gorgeous architecture, old city is old
    • Also, a real art gallery
  • More job opportunities

Cons

  • Most of my friends have moved away from Philly, as well as my best friend
    • Admittedly, most of my NY friends have moved away too, so the situation here is not much better
      • Conclusion: I need some friends who do not live 8+ hours away from me
  • Far away from my family, would have to call them an obnoxious number of times to make up for it
  • The coffee shops do not live up to my standards
  • Still do not know the city quite as well as would like, though admittedly did not live in it for 15+ years, which is how long I've lived here
  • More job competition
