• Age 4? The McDonald's party; complete with white cake decorated with marzipan McDonald characters.
  • Age 11? Sleepover party. My mom set up a huge scavenger hunt in my neighbourhood with clues taped to the back of stop signs and hidden with some of her friends. I remember some of the clues related to Maniac McGee the book we were reading in class at the time. The prize at the end was a little ceramic ghost with a pumpkin for each of us to paint.
  • Age 23. Halloween party in Berlin; shots of absinthe when it was my birthday at midnight.
  • Age 8? Sleepover with Tina. We ate spaghetti and milk in wine glasses. I got a t-shirt with Joe from New Kids On the Block on it.
  • Age 7? A birthday party in the basement with my entire class (+ Tina and Zoe). The girls all wore frilly party dresses and some of the boys wore little ties. The big surprise was an Anne of Green Gables birthday cake. The look of excitment on my face (captured in pictures) is pretty priceless.
  • Age 21. A surprise at home. Ashley, Dana, Erin, Kristy and April made me dinner. I remember being so happy to see Erin there, more than anything. They gave me a silver ring. April, Kristy and I went to the casino and then came back to the South Shore for Pink Ladies at this sad little restaurant that is now shut down.
  • Age 24. Leuven, Belgium. Halloween party at a Belgian University's student union. I was dressed as a pirate. Dana ignored me most of the evening and didn't wish me a happy birthday at midnight. I stole a whole bunch of signs off the bulletin board in the lobby. I wonder if that girl ever did find someone to rent her apartment?
