jun 22 2020 + ✺ THE GOAL: i'm on stage, with my bass slung over my shoulder. the bass feels right on my body, and the audience notice how i tend to the bass like i would a lover - with attention, grace, and gentle caresses. the bass is plugged into an amp and loop pedal. the lights go low and a single spotlight is shone on stage, and i enjoy the silence and the eyes on me as i labour starting the music by a few extra seconds, relishing in the palpable anticipation in the air. my fingers begin to come alive and they play a simple-intermediate riff with understated confidence - i am attuned to the bass - and i tap the loop pedal. i let the loop repeat for a couple bars, and then i build another more exuberant riff on top of it, and press loop. the bass i provide is funky yet grounded, melodically and rhythmically interesting, driving, and thriving. i soon put my bass down and move on to another instrument, but this b... ✺ jun 22 2020 ∞
