Field Notes are exactly what is right with American small business. Hand made in Chicago, every product they make exudes creativity and attention to detail. "They are just notebooks" one might say. This couldn't be further from the truth. Every quarter, they issue a special edition. Below is a visual list of my personal favorites. Full disclosure here, I have purchased every special edition since the Spring 2010 pack.

--<<< UPDATE >>>-- Trying to revisit some of the older lists. And here we have a new number one!

  • Foiled Again   ★  Summer 2023  ★  Utilizing abundant hot foil stamping, this book proves that after 16 years of custom notebooks, the folk at Field Notes have not lost a bit of their design sense. From the shimmering blue cover stock to the intricately detailed tuck box, this easily became my favorite the day it was released. All in all a killer notebook.

  • Mile Marker   ★  Spring 2019  ★  I still can't tell you why I like these so much, but I do. The reflective coating on these is killer, its the same stuff on highway signs. How do they come up with an idea like that?

  • Ravens Wing   ★  Fall 2010  ★  Simple, subtle and ominous. This notebook is so pretty you wont want to write in it.

  • Grass Stain Green   ★  Summer 2009  ★  One of the few I do not have. Donations are accepted.

  • Northerly   ★  Winter 2011  ★  This one had the first colored interior pages.

  • Resolution   ★  Winter 2017  ★  One of the three is a 56 week datebook. Which makes a great mini-journal. They should offer this one as a regular product. I know, I know they have the larger size 56 week planner, but the small size would be cool.

  • Three Missions   ★  Summer 2018  ★  Comes with kick ass spaceship origami.

  • Heavy Duty   ★  Summer 2020  ★  Ok, Ok I admit it, I hated them when I first saw them. Once they were in my hands though, THAT is a different story.

  • Workshop Companion   ★  Summer 2015  ★  Love the box, this must have been costly to produce....

  • Packet Full Of Sunshine   ★  Spring 2010  ★  This guy get honorable mention as it was my gateway to the Field Notes universe. My first of many purchases. Also, these came with marigold seeds. To plant. Seriously.
