The Mayonnaise Jar and Two Cups of Coffee

When things in your lives seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 cups of coffee.

If any item on the list clashes with any other item, Rumi warned, you are destined for unhappiness. Better to live a life of single-pointed focus, he taught. • Mankind must remember that peace is not God's gift to his creatures; peace is our gift to each other.
  • Our obligation is to give meaning to life and in doing so to overcome the passive, indifferent life.
