• Source: Aveyond II
  • Pinterst Aesthetic Board
  • Age in source: 22
  • Long blond hair, blue eyes, and a snobby looking face
  • Second-born Prince of Thais
  • White Mage/Healer
    • Is said (mostly by himself) to be the best healer in the land, but he will only treat nobles.
  • Often goes by "Nikky" especially with people he's close to (Uthar & Gavin)
  • Gay, as is his older brother Uthar
  • Genderfluid, but not from a culture that enables him to explain this clearly
  • Primarily uses he/him/his pronouns & male terms, but will sometimes temporarily use she/her pronouns & female terms, or they/them pronouns & neutral terms (to the extent that they're culturally available), but that's only in private with Uthar & Gavin
  • Is an unapologetic self-absorbed asshole
    • His canon ending involves him being "given" a magical boot which will follow him around & kick him in the ass every time he's a jerk. Seriously.
  • Only goes on the quest because Uthar forces him to
  • Following the quest, he spends time as a pirate aboard the ship of Ava One-Eye. This is not by choice, it's to teach him to become a decent person, same as happened years earlier with Uthar. (This is also clearly stated in canon)
  • Canonically hates two things: commoners, and warlocks/dark mages
    • He hates a lot of things, but these are the two he's said to hate the most.
    • He also cannot stand Ella of Candar, who Uthar eventually marries purely out of duty. Nikky is almost entirely justified in this one.
  • Eventually marries Gavin Morven, a commoner & warlock who hates nobles
    • This isn't technically canon, technically they can't both be in the party without installing a cheat/goodie, but it happened, and it would be canon if canon were good & accurate.

Education

    • Attends The College of War & Magic, along with Uthar. Uthar attends as a warrior, and Nikky as a mage.
    • Uthar, and, a few years later, Nikky, both refuse to even consider living in the college dormitories with the other students, who they consider beneath them. Since the college is connected to the castle, this isn't pushed.

Development, particularly regarding his sexuality & feelings for Uthar {incest warning, not abusive}

    • At an early age he somehow gets the impression that Uthar will become king (true) & he will marry Uthar and be King Consort (not true)
    • As he ages, he becomes increasingly convinced of this
    • As a young teen, his definite romantic feelings for his older brother become more pronounced, and develop into increasingly sexual feelings as well as he goes through puberty.
    • His parents have never been particularly attentive to either of their kids, but do notice that the "I'm going to marry Uthar!" statements that were laughably cute when he was a child haven't stopped, and although they're less frequent, he seems to be becoming increasingly insistent about it.
    • At this point they tell him under no uncertain terms that he cannot and will not marry Uthar, because "you can't marry your brother, and besides, you're both boys." It is the last part of that statement that reeks utter havoc on Nikky's mental state.
    • See, by this point, Nikky knows he's sexually attracted exclusively to men.
      • Culturally, this can't really be explained in Thais. There's no laws forbidding homosexuality, or even limiting marriage to being between a man & a woman, but that's mostly because the assumption that everyone is straight is so deeply rooted. There's not even overt open homophobia/discrimination, because it's just not thought of as a possibility. So there's no words for Nikky & Uthar to explain their sexuality, and the only people they know who are gay (to put it in modern earth terms) are each other. This is compounded by the fact that they've grown up so isolated from their peers.
    • Nikky knows he's attracted to men in general, not just Uthar. He's had plenty of generic fantasies about men with no identity, and he's had passing attraction to other male students at the College of War & Magic a few times. But those few cases of attraction have never gone beyond an awareness that he likes how this random guy he can't be bothered to know the name of looks. He's never had active interest in anyone but Uthar, never fantasized about anyone specific other than Uthar.
    • Add to this that, as previously stated, Nikky & Uthar grow up in a culture where same-sex/same-gender attraction is completely unheard of, and they are also very socially isolated, partly due to growing up in the castle, and partly due to their own snobbery. Although they're very aware of their cultures' norms, they don't have the opportunity to hear any possible gossip that hints at the existence of homosexuality, they don't have any friends who might also be going through the same thing.
    • This is what they know: They are both attracted exclusively to other men. Everyone around them assumes this is impossible, their parents included, so impossible it's not worth acknowledging. Yet they both have these supposedly impossible feelings, and as far as they know, they're the only ones who are like this.
      • (at this point, Nikky is the only one of them to have experienced romantic attraction (which was to Uthar), so this is exclusively referring to sexual attraction, although culturally there's not a distinction there for the most part)
    • What this amounts to for Nikky, is that in his mind, his attraction to Uthar & his attraction to men in general are inextricably tied. To ignore or put aside his attraction to Uthar would be to ignore his sexuality completely. And he can't do that. He has no way of expressing any of his feeling except to Uthar, who at least relates to some of them, but even if it were just to himself, he can't pretend they don't exist, and to him, it's all or nothing. His romantic & sexual attraction to Uthar is a package deal with a very fundamental aspect of who he is.
    • And then his parents dismiss the idea that two men could possibly have any sort of romantic or sexual relationship (In Thais, those are pretty much the same thing. For royalty, marriage is rarely motivated attraction, but the concepts are nonetheless tied. Of course you love your spouse, of course you have sex with them, of course they are the "opposite" sex & gender to you.)
    • Nikky is an extremely stubborn person. In his early life, this nearly always ends up hurting himself, someone else, or both. So when he is told that he can't have something he wants, especially if he is told that it is wrong for him to want it, he digs in, and he wants it more. He takes his defiant "yes" in response to your "no" to the extreme.
    • So since he already thinks of his attraction to Uthar & his attraction to men in general as a package deal, and he obviously can't and won't change his general sexuality, upon being told that he can't be with Uthar, that it's ridiculous & childish & impossible to think he can be, to even want to be, he adamantly decides "No. You can't take this from me, you can't change me." He no longer expects that he will marry Uthar, but he (mostly privately) becomes increasingly insistent that even that's not the way it will, it is the way it should be.
    • And that, more than anything else, is what takes Nicolas Pendragon from just being a spoiled royal brat, to being the spoiled royal brat who is an unrepentant asshole determined to get his own way that is introduced in Aveyond II.
