  • bones and all camille deangelis, 2015
    • i loved this book so dearly in so many different ways than the movie
  • nineteen claws and a black bird agustina bazterrica, 2020
  • tender is the flesh agustina bazterrica, 2017 (translated in 2020)
    • i liked this a lot more than the short stories!! i think her writing fits better in longer form than short
  • lapvona ottessa moshfegh, 2022
    • jesus christ. i liked this book but jesus fucking christ man
  • life ceremony sayaka murata, 2022
    • this was really good, it was a recommendation from my friend!!
  • lady tan's circle of women lisa see, 2023
    • i liked reading this but idk how accurate it truly was, and the ending felt kinda weird and rushed to me after everything that happened in the middle? idk, but i still enjoyed it despite that
  • where the crawdads sing delia owens, 2018
    • while i liked a lot of the writing and the characters in this, the end kinda ruined it for me ! sorry! i also wish kya had kept her accent throughout the book
  • death in her hands ottessa moshfegh, 2020
    • i liked a lot of the concepts in this book, and i REALLY liked chapter 3, and the part where you realize that everything thats happening isn't real too. overall though i didn't really like reading it! it wasn't a good experience besides chapter 3! i loved chapter 3!
  • exquisite corpse poppy z. brite, 1996
    • THIS WAS AWESOME I FORGOT I WAS MAKING THIS LIST BUT THIS BECAME ONE OF MY FAVORITE BOOKS EVER
  • dead inside chandler morrison, 2015
    • i'll be so read this book was boring as hell. okay you fuck dead girls. you eat dead babies. so what. SO WHAT!!! I DON'T CARE. if it had been any longer, i wouldn't have finished it. i'm not trusting anyone on the splatterpunk reddits recommendation ever again
  • the vegetarian han kang, originally published 2007, english translation published 2015
    • i read this with my friend!!! they suggested it to me!! it was my first book of 2025 and i loved the writing in it a LOT, it was a wonderful book to start off with. made me very very sad, and in the least spoilerful way, i enjoyed the choices in the storytelling by the author. it was worth the months long waiting list
  • flowers of mold ha seong-nan, published in 1999, english translation published 2019
    • i really wanted to like this as much i did the vegetarian, but i feel like i was missing something?? idk. maybe cultural, or something was lost in the translation, or i just Did Not Get. i still enjoyed the writing despite that, it just felt like there was something more at the end of each story and it got cut off before it was finished! maybe that was the intent. ANYWAYS my favorites from the collection were waxen wings, nightmare, and the woman next door. i didn't like the transphobic story much
  • no longer human osamu dazai, published in 1948, english translation published 1958
    • wow that guy hated women huh. i enjoyed this book a lot but i feel like i am perhaps not smart enough to express my feelings on it beyond that
  • fledgling octavia e. butler, 2005
    • I didn't like this. I'm sorry Miss Butler. i will read kindred after annihilation and i'll probably enjoy it more.

IM NOT FINISHING THESE

  • outlawed anna north, 2021
    • reason: what the fuck
  • things have gotten worse since we last spoke and other misfortunes eric larocca, 2022
    • reason: the title story was fine, but it felt too rushed and like there wasnt enough time to justify what happens in the end. the second story was the opposite where there was too much detail and not enough left to the imagination
  • eat me: a natural and unnatural history of cannibalism bill schutt, 2017
    • reason: i just don't care anymore. sorry. maybe i'll finish it later
  • everything's eventual stephen king, 2002
    • reason: i don't care anymoreeeeeeeeeeeeee
  • welcome to nightvale joseph fink and jeffrey cranor
    • reason: i didn't like how it kept feeling like it was pointing out HEY! THIS BOOK IS WEIRD! ITS WACKY! i'm sorry. i love the podcast though
  • perfume: the story of a murderer patrick süskind, published in 1985, not sure about the english translation?
    • reason: i don't care
