This is a List Your Self list, which is more like things I would miss if I happened to die. I have a lot of reasons to love my life.

  • Food. Food is amazing and delicious. I take such immense pleasure in eating, spending time with people over food, and cooking. I enjoy trying new things when it comes to food, but I also like returning to my old favorites now and then.
  • Companionship. Being around people has become an essential part of my life. I can't imagine spending all my time alone as I used to. I look forward to meeting new people, hearing new things, and spending time with the people whose company I enjoy.
  • Family. I don't know what they'd do without me. I don't know what I'd do without them.
  • Exercise. Exercise makes me feel good. Walking is my favorite and I walk all over. I like trying new things and laughing at myself if I'm terrible at what I'm trying. It's invigorating and healthy and fun.
  • Nature. Walks in nature help me appreciate the natural world, which is gorgeous in so many ways. Sunlight glinting off a lake, huge ocean waves, forests that seem to go on forever, waterfalls, stars in the midnight sky...a single flower, a delicate blade of grass, a tree.
  • Health. I'm healthier and happier now than I've ever been in my life. Even as a child I wasn't happier than I am now. And I'm much healthier than I was starting with hypothyroidism and mental disorders at age eleven.
  • Contributing. Helping people feels good. Volunteering has become an important part of my life. And my love language is "acts of service", which means I show my appreciation for people by doing things for or with them. It's the small things that matter: from serving lunch to the homeless to helping a family member with an unpleasant chore.
