"Many people need desperately to receive this message: 'I feel and think much as you do, care about many of the things you care about, although most people do not care about them. You are not alone.'" Kurt Vonnegut

netflix and in theatre

  • the painted veil-made me want to read the maugham book it's based on but I thought it was a little bit cold (maybe edward norton's fault)
  • indiana jones & the kingdom of the crystal skull-mildly diverting. first rate special effects but a little too self-indulgent
  • zodiac-wasn't as over the moon about this one as some of my cinephile friends, but I was entertained.
  • the business of being born - just one more reason to be your own healthcare advocate.
  • the first amendment project - important issue and a compelling examination
  • leonard cohen: I'm your man - fascinating man. always love to revisit his lyrics. some of the most beautiful and sad lyrics ever written
  • the fall-extremely uneven, but exquisite beauty at the same time
  • matthew barney: no restraint - beautiful sculpture, odd material; found him to be well-matched to bjork (who seemed to be one of the few who sincerely understood his vision). Was a worthwhile portrait of a controversial artist
  • Lust, Caution - beautiful cinematography in the mahjong scenes; powerful story about people's personal limits when you think you're world is ending
  • Baby Mama - more sweet than hysterically funny. but still recommended (esp. for women).
  • Iron Man - thoroughly entertaining. love rdj.
  • Standard Operating Procedure - I was a little bit disappointed by this one. The subject matter (Abu Ghraib) was harrowing enough without the glossy production values. I would have preferred the photos and interviews speaking for themselves w/o the re-enactments.
