- Szimplakert is my favorite place in the entire city. It's something of a speakeasy in the tradition of all the great Budapest "kerts" or garden bars that are illegal and reside in old crumbling buildings all over the old jewish quarter.
- Dupla is owned by the szimpla guys. This restaurant has good prices and fresh ingredients.
- Menza is a riff on old communist cafeteria style restaurants. It sits on the most trendy cafe street in town. You will hear Budapest's best classical musicians rehearsing at the Music Conservatory over your head at the opposite end of Lizst Feren Ter.
- Tzraktur . Another busted up old building/art space.
- Szoda is my favorite cafe/bar. they also have a kert every summer somewhere in the city.
- klub vittula brit-owned dive bar. closes for the summer. very smoky. good djs. good mix of expats and locals.
- Statue Park the only place to see all the old communist statues that used to stand all over the city. Tough to find, but so worth it.
