- Parent by example
- Be calm around them
- Explain things in an honest but tactful way
- Read them a story every night, and buy audio books for when I’m not there
- Attend to my happiness as well, so they can see that I’m happy
- Tell them all about their family history
- Don’t be afraid to admit I don’t know something
- Praise them for kindness and generosity and sincerity and hard work, not for being “outstanding”
- Don’t reinforce competitiveness (see above)
