Writing styles and it's effects:
- The books she read
- History of birds (idk)- Jane is stuck on the landscapes she sees in the book (bleak landscapes mirrors the landscape of her mind)
- Gothic elements: Macabre and ominous writing style
- To illustrate Jane's plight as a woman in the Victorian era
- Use of doubling: In the red room, Jane stares at her reflection- it mirrors her state of mind
- Use of repeated question marks and anaphoric repetition,
- Descriptions of red room
- 'Crimson,' 'mahogany', 'red'- mirrors Jane's fiery passion
- 'Stateliness', 'piled up' etc, The disproportionately large furniture which causes Jane to seem very small in the room- may be caused by Jane's perspective of the room which emphasizes her hysteric nature when she's being locked up, or to illustrate the disproportionate nature of her punishment
