covid-19
- women experienced an increase in domestic violence according to UN women, seven in 10 women say that they went through and verbal abuse. This has been amplified by the lack of access to social services.
- they also reported to have higher rates of depression and anxiety due to the increase in the burden of the caregiving role
Stereotypes continue to affect the roles that women occupy
- that may be the stereotype that women should occupy the caregiver roles. This might limit professional options, which contribute to the underrepresentation of women in male dominated sectors.
- women may also have to internalise stereotypes which might undermine their confidence and aspirations, which will also discourage them from pursuing challenging roles
Why is it important to discuss women humans rights?
- inequality to persist globally stride made by the international women’s rights movement as women and goes still face, violent and discrimination, lack of access to education, health property and equal pay
- women and girls around the world are still married as children and trafficked for force, labour and sex slavery. One and seven girls are married of before their 15th birthday summer trapped in conflicts, where rape is used as a weapon of war. From pregnancy and childbirth are still at an all-time high. Women are denied to make the personal choices in their private lives, such as abortion. Domestic and spousal abuse, still runs rampant with UN women reporting that one and three women has been forced or coerced into sex in their lifetime. Marital rape continue to be ignored in many countries. Hence, we can see that the plight of women is swept under the carpet with cursory (hasty, and therefore undetailed) recognition of some problems.
Some steps taken by countries to achieve gender equality:
- there has been the promoting of equal political representation by women. This increases the visibility of women in lead leadership positions which challenges long-standing gender, stereotypes, and set up power, for example for young women and encouraging female, political, participation and ambition
- Rwanda mandates, at least 30% of parliamentary seats are mandated for women. So far over 60% of its lower house are women, one of the highest in the world.
- and Iceland companies are to pay men and women, the same pay for the same jobs with non-compliance met with fines
Women still excel in many areas
- they have pave the way for business, civil services and international organisations, economic leaders, such as Indra Nooyi, the chairman and CEO of PepsiCo Angela Barker, the chancellor of Germany, continue to be the beacon of women fuck around the world that they too can reach greater heights.
- statistics show that companies that have women on their boys generate more value by their long-term vision that generates profits
- women in general are deemed to be more patient, tolerant and are better at reconciliation
