to be honest, i love to read writing that happens in short, fresh bursts: short stories, essays, poems. I find the best of these types of writing surprising, real, and interesting. i enjoy drama for the same reason: we read it in scenes. i love prose that is edgy, true, and prose that pushes on the absurd, whether that be through language, humor, or a wholehearted dedication to human life (which is, in all seriousness, completely absurd--is it not?). writers that do this well for me include: {penguin}: bruce chatwin, t.c. boyle, kim edwards, elizabeth gilbert, rebecca solnit, junot diaz, sloane crosley, edward albee, toni morrison, hannah arendt, {random house}: joan didion, alice munro, toni morrison, aimee bender, w.s. merwin, david young, c.p. cavafy, {harper}: sylvia plath, {hachette}: tina fey, {macmillan}: john berryman, {other}: rw emerson, garcia-lorca
