Reject the basic assumptions of civilization especially the importance material possessions.

Conscious consumerism

Be aware of how products are made and the impact on other humans, animals, the environment, and yourself.

Minimialize with: 1. space, 2. mind, 3.time

  • Television (limit your exposure to advertising)
  • laundry soap
  • kitchen clutter- only the amount of plates, silverware, glasses, etc. that you NEED
  • excessive food- buy food that you will EAT and ENJOY
  • home decor and home furnishings.- wall painting, knick knacks, etc. Declutter! including seasonal decor.
  • clothing. Think of the environment and the workers, Amanda!
  • little gifts for others. Have your gifts be acts of service, words of affirmation, hug, etc.
  • books. Make use of the LIBRARY. Save for a Kindle.
  • unnecessary gadgets and appliances
  • nail polish. You have never finished an entire bottle of nail polish in your life. Why keep buying more?
  • bedding. You only need a couple of blankets, one pillow, and one set of sheets.
  • impulse purchases. Buy things with INTENTION and THOUGHT.
  • toiletries. You only need one lotion for your whole body, and one soap for your whole body.
  • make-up. One mascara, one eye curler. Only buy more when replacing.
  • hair products. one hairbrush.
  • shoes- a pair of sandals, a pair of tennis shoes, and a pair of professional shoes.
  • junk food. Simplify your diet. Whole foods. None of that processed and chemical stuff. Keep it simple.
  • a trifold mattress on the ground. No bed frame, box spring necessary.
  • people. Surround yourself with people that support and encourage you. Ain't nobody got time for negativity and discouragement.
  • Be as genuine as possible.
  • "back-ups" and "sales" when you'd buy more than you need.
  • less expensive versions- things are usually worth the amount of money you spend on them. Buy less but high quality.You want quality, reliability, longevity, especially with clothing the electronics.
  • multipacks of things you've never tried before.
  • things you've never tried on. Things that are uncomfortable and/or don't fit.
  • free handouts, free samples, free gifts, "buy one get one free". Politely say no.
