- cringe-y humor that is the source of way too many modern memes that will surprise you when you watch it. the humor is definitely not for everyone but the emotional payoff is incredible. a very intelligently written series, diligently following the golden rule 'show, don't tell'.

- fullmetal alchemist: brotherhood
- if i could recommend just one anime to anyone ever, it would be this. an incredibly balanced story that focuses on the elric brothers, and the secrets of alchemy. has drama, humor, politics (BOY does it have Politics), family, mystery. completed.
- needs slightly more commitment than everything else in this list, because it's kind of long and gets very heavy in parts. allocate a few hours of lying in bed staring at the ceiling after finishing for the first time. all worth it though!
