I'm archiving this list because I'm putting school on the back burner for the moment.
You would think by this time in my life I would know what I want to do when I grow up. But, even in my late 30's, I'm having a hard time deciding what to do. So many things fascinate me. I hope I can make up my mind within the next year. Here are the majors I'm considering...
- Art
- Animation, Mixed Media, Graphic Art. I have some artistic talent, but I'm not sure if I want this to be a full time career. Will have to see how I feel about it after taking some of the classes.
- Anthropology & Archaeology
- Very interesting. Okay, I have to admit I've been in love with this idea since I watched my first Indiana Jones movie at the age of 9. I do realize that I won't be dodging poison darts as I race out of temples while being chased by giant rock balls. :) Update: I'm thinking if I go into this field it would most likely be to teach or do lab/research work, or maybe museum work. My life at this point does not accomodate a lot of travel for digs.
- Literature/Creative Writing
- I love to write, but like the art idea, I'm not sure if this is something I actually want to pursue in college. There are a lot of starving artists and writers out there that are far more talented than I am.
- Library Science
- This is sounding better and better. It pays well, has a nice work environment, and the hours are great too as libraries never stay open too late. I could be around many different subjects and help people with their research. Updated to add: I think I would most like to work in a college library as most of the librarians I've run into in the public sector are...strange. Just an observation.
- Psychology
- I seem to always have this in the back of my head, but again, not sure about doing this as a career. I know I don't want to get involved with having patients in an office setting because I don't want the headache of dealing with health insurance companies. However, there are other careers to go into with this degree and it's worth further investigation.
- Photography
- I almost feel obligated to add this in here since this is part of how I earn money at the moment. I'm getting a little burned out on shooting weddings though, and that seems to be where a lot of the business is. I probably won't be majoring in this, but you never know...it might be nice to have an actual degree in it.
- History
- Not sure about this major, but I'm looking into it. I really enjoy certain periods of history - especially WWII. I'll have to see how I feel after taking more history classes and reading on my own.
- Religious Studies
- Stumbled upon this one while looking at academic programs at CSUN. I clicked on it out of curiosity and was surprised it was along the lines of anthropology/archaeology only dealing with religious aspects. There are many things you can do with the major too, making it all the more appealing.
